2019 Clos Manou "Petit Manou" Medoc
We tasted their 2019 Petit Manou the other week amongst two dozen other Bordeaux and it was ABSOLUTELY EXCEPTIONAL - much better than some of the $60-90 bottles that it shared the table with. For an ‘every day’ drinking Bordeaux, this one hits so much harder than that.
It’s BURSTING WITH ENERGY, yet silky smooth with good weight and tension and a finish that lingers for a mile. The couple are so meticulous about their organic farming practices that they don’t even apply for certification because they don’t feel like, “it goes far enough” the sign of someone who’s doing it religiously, and not for show.
"From an 18-hectare estate planted at a density of around 10,000 vines per hectare, the 2019 Clos Manou is a serious wine. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berry fruit, cigar wrapper, licorice and espresso roast, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with terrific concentration, lively acids and plenty of ripe, powdery tannin that will reward a bit of bottle age. It's closed with an Ardeaseal technical cork as used by Burgundy's Domaine Ponsot among others.
