Of course, not only Sicilians make Nero D’Avola, it’s made throughout the country but nobody makes Nero D’Avola better than Feudo Montoni. That’s not just me saying that - critics are pretty unanimous. As Vinous’ Italian Expert Ian D’Agata wrote,The entry-level Nero d'Avola is made from the estate's younger vines and is aged for a short period in neutral French oak, while the Vrucara is an old-vines bottling that sees a year or more in French oak barrels and casks. Both are striking and highly recommended… The Nero d’Avola Selezione Vrucara is simply the country’s best Nero d’Avola wine.

"The 2016 Vrucara is a dark and towering Nero d'Avola with a beguiling nose of cooling mint and smoke that gives way to crushed cherries laced with licorice and hints of shaved cedar. Its velverty textures soothe, carried across a medium-bodied framework of acid and minerals, as juicy black fruits and hints of wild herbs drench the palate. A coating of fine tannins lingers, framing the experience nicely without slowing its momentum, as nuances of plum sauce and balsamic spices slowly fade. The Vrucara is enjoyable already, but can easily excel through medium-term cellaring, and will likely even imporve over that time." -94+ Pts, Vinous

"Dramatic diurnal shifts in the 2016 growing season preserved fresh acidity in the grapes and amped up this wine’s gorgeous scents of lavender and eucalyptus. It’s a complete wine, unfolding with juicy dark-berry and plum flavors couched in a velvety texture, finishing long and balanced on lingering spice notes." -94 Pts, Wine & Spirits
