This is a Grand Cru Classe from 1885, in the same category as the likes of Lynch Bages, Cantermerle and Pontet Canet. In the 2005 in particular though, I'm calling this the sleeper. I had the chance to try this earlier this summer and had to bring it over. It's such a gorgeous wine that is only now starting to scratch the surface of what it will become. It's still got so much energy and tension and there is a lot of different layers and elegance with still slightly chewy tannins, dark fruit and a touch of bramble. This Left Bank beauty was drawn off a vineyard in Haut-Medoc right near Saint-Julien.
